Theatre Guided Tour of Avignon in 1860
About This Experience
Step back in time to 1860 and discover a little-known facet of Avignon through an immersive guided tour in the heart of its industrial past. Accompanied by Mme. Pernod, mother of a master dyer, and dressed in period costume, explore the old neighborhoods animated by textile workshops and the fabric trade. Along the alleys, let yourself be transported to the vibrant atmosphere of a city undergoing a major transformation: vibrant colors of fabrics, activity of manufactures, silk boom and famous “Indians”... Discover the essential role of the red of the garance, rare and precious pigment that made the prosperity of some large Avignon families. Through anecdotes, historical accounts and everyday scenes, Ms. Pernod reveals the lives of the artisans, workers and entrepreneurs who shaped Avignon’s identity in the 19th century.
